The ST7570 is a powerful power line networking system-on-chip. It combines a fully integrated narrow-band power line networking system-on-chip with a high-performing PHY processor and embedded turn-key firmware for spread-frequency shift keying (S-FSK) modulation. It supports programmable bit rate and carriers, signal to noise ratio estimation, received signal strength indication, and protocol engine embedding. The chip also features on chip peripherals like UART interface, fully integrated analog front end with ADC, DAC, and PGA, as well as a single-ended power amplifier. It is suitable for smart metering applications, street lighting control, and command and control networking.

STEVAL-IPP002V1 is a demonstration board for a smart meter system compliant with the IEC 61334-5-1 standard, suitable for AMI applications and based on the STM32, ST7570 PLM, and STPMC1/STPMS1 chipset. The system features energy measurement by an external metrology board, S-FSK power line communication up to 2.4 kbps, data communication compliant with the DLMS/COSEM specification, an LCD display to show energy consumption information, USB and RS232/IrDA connectivity, optional ZigBee communication capability, optional MEMS module support, and expansion capability for a smartcard interface.
