1. What we collect

Automatically, when you visit

• Server logs: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. Used to keep the site running, measure traffic and stop abuse.
• Search queries you type into the site search, without anything that identifies you.
• Cookies and similar technologies set by us and by the partners listed in section 3.

When you choose to give it to us

• Contact and correction forms: your message and, if you provide them, your name and email address.
• Uploads: the file you send, the details you enter about it and, if you provide it, your email address. We do not publish your name or email with the document.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send, sensitive personal information.

2. How we use it

• To provide the site and its search, and to keep it secure.
• To understand which documents are useful and improve the library.
• To reply to you and act on your report, upload or request.
• To show advertising, which pays for the site.
• To comply with the law and handle copyright notices.

We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not send marketing email.

3. Cookies, analytics and advertising partners

• Google Analytics measures visits and page views using cookies. Opt-out add-on.
• Google AdSense and its advertising partners use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings or at aboutads.info. More: how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
• ShareThis provides the sharing buttons and may set cookies when they load.
• Cloudflare delivers and protects the site and processes IP addresses and security cookies to do so.

Visitors in regions that require it are shown a cookie notice and can decline non-essential cookies. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser; the library will still work.

4. Who we share data with

Only with the service providers above, with our hosting and email providers, and with authorities or rights holders where the law requires it (for example, forwarding a copyright notice to the uploader of a document, or a counter-notice to the complainant).

5. How long we keep it

• Server logs: up to 30 days.
• Messages, reports and upload records: as long as needed to handle them and keep a record of what was done, normally no more than two years.
• Analytics data: according to Google's retention settings, at most 14 months.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising. To opt out of targeted ads, use the controls in section 3. For anything else, write to us through the contact page; we answer within 30 days and never discriminate against anyone for making a request.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are legitimate interests (running, securing and improving the site), consent (non-essential cookies and personalised ads) and legal obligation.

7. International transfers

The site is hosted on servers in Canada and delivered through Cloudflare's global network. Our advertising and analytics partners process data in the United States and other countries. By using the site you understand that your data may be processed outside your own country.

8. Children

ManualLib is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and we limit access to the data described here. No website can guarantee absolute security.
