Agilent 720-ES 730-ES Series SmartRinse Maximizing Throughput Application Note Manual
SmartRinse is a feature within the Agilent ICP Expert II software designed to speed up sample wash-out in 700 Series ICP-OES instruments. It reduces carry-over and increases productivity by optimizing the rinse time between samples based on the specific element concentrations being measured, rather than using a fixed, worst-case time for all samples.
The feature works by measuring the baseline signal of selected element emission lines and calculating a threshold intensity. During the rinse phase, the system continuously monitors the signal intensity. Rinsing stops automatically once the signals for all selected elements fall below their calculated thresholds. The sensitivity of this process can be adjusted by the user via an SD factor setting to accommodate different analytical requirements.

Questions answered in these manuals
How does SmartRinse determine when to stop rinsing?
SmartRinse stops rinsing when the measured signal intensity of all nominated emission lines falls below a pre-determined threshold intensity calculated from baseline measurements.

What is the recommended procedure for cleaning white powder deposits from the end of the torch after analysis?
To remove the deposit, soak the torch directly in concentrated HCl to dissolve it, then rinse with de-ionized water and allow it to dry.
