Maxim MAX3387E RS-232 Transceiver Datasheet
The MAX3387E is a 3 V powered TIA/EIA‑232 and V.28/V.24 communications interface designed for portable devices such as sub‑notebooks, PDAs, cell‑phone data cables, and battery‑powered equipment. It features three receivers and three transmitters, each protected against high‑voltage electro‑static discharge.
Key features include a dual charge‑pump supply that operates from +3.0 V to +5.5 V, AutoShutdown Plus that reduces supply current to 1 µA when idle, VLPin for programmable logic‑level compatibility, and a 24‑pin TSSOP package. The device supports data rates up to 250 kbps while maintaining RS‑232 voltage levels.

Questions answered in these manuals
What is the operating voltage range for the MAX3387E?
It operates from a supply voltage of +3.0 V up to +5.5 V.
How does AutoShutdown Plus reduce power consumption?
When FORCEOFF is high and no valid RS‑232 signal is detected for 30 seconds, the charge pumps shut down, lowering the supply current to about 1 µA.
What is the voltage range for the VL pin?
VL can be connected to a logic supply between 1.8 V and VCC (3 V‑5.5 V).
