MAXIM MAX3738 155Mbps to 2.7Gbps SFF/SFP Laser Driver with Extinction Ratio Control handbook

Datasheet

The MAX3738 is a +3.3V laser driver designed for multi-rate transceiver modules with data rates from 155Mbps to 2.7Gbps. Lasers can be DC-coupled to the MAX3738 for reduced component count and ease of multirate operation. Laser extinction ratio control (ERC) combines the features of automatic power control (APC), modulation compensation, and built-in thermal compensation. The APC loop maintains constant average optical power. Modulation compensation increases the modulation current in proportion to the bias current. These control loops, combined with thermal compensation, maintain a constant optical extinction ratio over temperature and lifetime. The MAX3738 accepts differential data input signals. The wide 5mA to 60mA (up to 85mA AC-coupled) modulation current range and up to 100mA bias current range, make the MAX3738 ideal for driving FP/DFB lasers in fiber optic modules. External resistors set the required laser current levels. The MAX3738 provides transmit disable control (TX_DISABLE), single-point fault tolerance, bias-current monitoring, and photocurrent monitoring. The device also offers a latched failure output (TX_FAULT) to indicate faults, such as when the APC loop is no longer able to maintain the average optical power at the required level. The MAX3738 is compliant with the SFF-8472 transmitter diagnostic and SFP MSA timing requirements. The MAX3738 is offered in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin thin QFN package and operates over the extended -40°C to 85°C ambient temperature range, and at a supply voltage of 3.3V.

MAXIM MAX3840 +3.3V 2.7Gbps Dual 2 2 Crosspoint Switch handbook

Datasheet

The MAX3840 is a MAXIM high-performance dual 2×2 asynchronous crosspoint switch for SDH/SONET DWDM and other high-bandwidth data switching applications, suitable for OC-48 systems with forward error correction. It features high bandwidth, fully differential signal path, which minimizes jitter accumulation, crosstalk and signal skew. Each 2×2 crosspoint switch can fan out and/or multiplex up to 2.7Gbps data and 2.7GHz clock signals. All inputs and outputs are compatible with current mode logic (CML) and can be easily adapted to interface with an AC-coupled LVPECL signal. When not used, each CML output stage can be powered down with an enable control to conserve power. Typical power consumption is 460mW with all outputs enabled. The MAX3840 is compatible with the MAX3876 2.5Gbps clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit. The MAX3840 is available in a 32-pin exposed-pad QFN package (5mm×5mm footprint) and operates from a +3.3V supply over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

MAXIM MAX3783 2.7Gbps Dual Mux/Buffer with Loopback handbook

Datasheet

The MAX3783 is a dual serial multiplexer (mux) and buffer with selectable line-side loopback for system interconnect and serial backplane applications up to 2.7Gbps. Each independent channel consists of a transmitter with fanout of two and a receiver with a 2:1 input mux. Selectable loopback paths support system testing. Operating from a single 3.3V supply, this device has current-mode logic (CML) inputs and outputs, which can be AC-coupled for PECL compatibility, if desired. The IC is packaged in a compact 48-pin TQFP-EP package with exposed pad. Typical power consumption is 1.12W. Applications include 2.7Gbps Serial Communications System Interconnect, Serial Backplane Fail-Over and Protection Switching.
