MCP2515 is a stand-alone Controller Area Network (CAN) transceiver/decoder from Microchip Technology. It implements the CAN V2.0B protocol and supports data transmission rates of up to 1 Mb/s. The device features two prioritized receive buffers, six 29-bit filters, two 29-bit masks, three transmit buffers with prioritization and abort features, as well as a high-performance SPI interface.

The MCP2515 is a fully CAN V2.0B compliant stand-alone CAN controller operating at 1 Mb/s. The device has two receive buffers, six 29-bit acceptance filter registers, two 29-bit acceptance mask registers, three transmit buffers, a high-speed SPI interface (10 MHz), a clock output pin with a programmable prescaler, a usable start-of-frame signal (Start-of-Frame, SOF), an interrupt output pin with an optional enable setting, a “buffer full” output pin that can be configured as each receive buffer’s interrupt pin or a general-purpose digital output pin, and a “request-to-send (Request-to-Send, RTS)” input pin that can be individually configured as each transmit buffer’s control pin, a pin to request immediate transmission of a message, or a general-purpose digital input pin.
