This document describes the method and results of analyzing anions in power plant waters using capillary electrophoresis. Anion analysis is performed using indirect UV detection, allowing for fast and reliable analysis of low ppb levels of small inorganic and organic anions.

This application note describes a method for the analysis of aromatic amines in leather extracts using CE-MS. This method provides specific identification of analytes in complex matrices that would present difficulties for HPLC. Organic extracts of leather fit this description exactly, therefore CE-MS is the method of choice.

This paper describes the analysis of drugs of abuse using capillary electrophoresis coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (CE-ESI-MS). The unique identification of drugs was achieved by observing protonated molecular ions and characteristic fragment ions. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the method, but additional method development and/or validation may be required for routine use.

The study proposes an optimized method for the analysis of tropane alkaloids by CE-ESI-MS. The results show that the method has high selectivity and sensitivity and is suitable for the quantitative analysis of tropane alkaloids in biological samples.

This application note describes a method for quantifying three alkaloids in the stem of various mahonia species: berberine, palmatine, and jatrorrhizine. The method uses capillary electrophoresis (CE), which is particularly suited to the analysis of plant extracts because of its ability to deal with complex or “dirty” sample matrices.

This paper compares the Agilent J&W DB-5ms Ultra Inert column with similar versions from four other column manufacturers with respect to their chromatographic behaviors for active analytes. Superior results were observed on the DB-5ms columns for basic compounds. Chromatograms depicting peak shape characteristics are presented to show how exceptional inertness leads to a significant reduction in tailing of active basic compounds for more accurate, reliable analytical results. Excellent chromato- graphic performance was obtained for a diverse group of compounds that included chlorophenols, organophosphorus pesticides and aromatic positional isomers demon- strating the applicability of the DB-5ms column for a wide range of applications.
