This article describes a method for analyzing 1,2-ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) in water using the Agilent 6890 series gas chromatograph and Agilent 6890 micro-electron capture detector. The method follows EPA Method 504, using microextraction to extract the analytes from the sample, and then analyzing the extract by dual-column gas chromatography with dual micro-electron capture detectors (Agilent 6890 micro-ECDs). The micro-ECD provides significantly better stability, sensitivity, and linearity than the classical ECD. The relative standard deviation (% RSD) for the entire method is less than 7% over a concentration range greater than two orders of magnitude, with method detection limits of 0.003 mmmmg/L or lower.

Agilent 3000 Micro GC configured with two performance-enhanced modules provides a fast and accurate solution for landfill gas component analysis. The individual components are baseline separated in less than 30 seconds by a two-channel configured Micro GC. With this solution, landfill gas can be monitored and controlled easily.

This application note describes a fast HPLC method for the analysis of DNPH derivatized carbonyls found in air samples. The method employs a 1.8-μm StableBond C18 column and a UV detector, and can separate and identify a standard of the major 13 DNPH derivatized carbonyls. An air sample is analyzed in under 10 minutes and found to contain several carbonyls.

This document describes the analysis of 19 pharmaceuticals in positive ion mode and 11 pharmaceuticals in negative ion mode using solid phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). The analysis was performed at low picogram level on column without any derivatization. Good linearity was observed for analytes from 1 pg to 1 ng on column. Repeatability from six injections of analytes at 5 pg on column showed RSDs below 15%, for all target compounds except for fluoxetine at 23%.

Peptide Mapping of a Monoclonal Antibody using a Microfluidic-based HPLC-Chip coupled to an Agilent Accurate-Mass Q-TOF LC/MS

This note describes the Pressure Controlled Tee (PCT) configuration for rapid and universal GC/MS backflushing applied to selected reaction monitoring experiments on the Agilent 7890 GC used with the Agilent 7000 Series Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer. This means that rapid backflushing and quick column and inlet maintenance without venting the MS system can be incorporated without a loss in detection limits using a simple PCT configuration.

This article introduces a fast GC-FID method for the analysis of mineral oil in environmental samples using a low thermal mass system. The fast oven temperature programming achieved by the low thermal mass system dramatically reduced the analysis cycle time and increased the sensitivity. The regulated method requirements are met for the environmental analysis of the C10-C40 hydrocarbon fraction in soil and water extracts using splitless injection with an analysis time less than three minutes. Cool-down time is less than two minutes, resulting in an injection-injection cycle time of five minutes. Method performance criteria, including repeatability, linearity and solute discrimination, are presented.

A profile-directed biomarker discovery approach involving initial differential expression analysis followed by targeted identification of differentially expressed proteins was used in this study. Using Agilent platforms such as a Multiple Affinity Removal (MARS) column, a 1200 Series HPLC-Chip/MS and a 6520 Accurate-Mass Quadrupole Time-of-Flight (Q-TOF) LC/MS, excellent reproducibility in retention time and intensity measurement, and outstanding accuracy in mass measurement and sensitivity over a wide dynamic range were achieved. Differential analyses using MassHunter Mass Profiler and MassHunter Mass Profiler Professional (MPP) software enabled the comparison between spiked and non-spiked plasma samples. Subsequent targeted MS/MS analysis on a Q-TOF LC/MS followed by a database search using Spectrum Mill helped identify the spiked protein.

This Application Note demonstrates the use of rapid resolution liquid chromatography in conjunction with tandem mass spectrometry to study the plasma stability of phar- maceutical compounds belonging to four different drug classes. The Agilent 1200 Series Rapid Resolution LC system (RRLC) provided fast separation of compounds and internal standard in all samples. The Agilent MassHunter Optimizer software identi- fied compound-specific MS parameters such as the most abundant product ions, opti- mal fragmentor voltages and collision energies. Taken together, robust methods for a larger set of compounds could be developed within a short period of time.
