About this manual

The CDC9841 is a high-performance clock synthesizer/driver designed to generate all required clock signals necessary for a high-performance PC motherboard. It provides four programmable central processing unit (CPU) clock outputs and six peripheral-component-interconnect (PCI) clock outputs, along with fixed-frequency outputs for 24-MHz and 12-MHz applications.

The device generates all output frequencies from a single 14.31818-MHz crystal input using two internal phase-lock loops (PLLs). It features on-chip loop filters that eliminate the need for external components, operates at 3.3 V, and is packaged in a plastic small-outline package with distributed Vcc and ground pins to reduce switching noise.
