This document describes an improved chiral separation of enantiomers of linalool using a multidimensional capillary GC system with Deans switch heart-cutting and independent column temper- ature control.
This document details a method for improving the chiral separation of linalool enantiomers using a multidimensional capillary gas chromatography (GC) system. The technique involves heart-cutting a target peak from a non-chiral column to a second-dimension chiral cyclodextrin column installed in an Agilent LTM oven module.
The use of the LTM module allows for independent temperature control of the two columns, enabling lower operating temperatures on the chiral column. This configuration achieves better separation resolution, reduces stationary phase bleed, shortens analysis time, and protects the sensitive chiral column from contamination by low-volatility sample components.
The application note describes an improved chiral separation using a multidimensional capillary GC system with Deans switch heart-cutting and independent column temperature control.
The cyclodextrin secondary column was programmed at 80 °C for 9 minutes followed by heating to 100 °C at a rate of 1 °C per minute.
The total run time for this configuration is 30 minutes.
