describes the evaluation of a new forked platform design for the Agilent GTA graphite furnaces
This document evaluates a new forked platform design intended for use with Agilent GTA graphite furnaces. The design features a partitioned tube with notches that allow the platform to be inserted with minimal physical contact to the tube wall, preventing rotation during insertion. This design aims to reduce chemical and background interferences by delaying sample vaporization relative to the tube wall temperature.
The evaluation tested the platform's performance by analyzing five elements (As, Se, Pb, Cd, and Sn) using Agilent SpectrAA-400 spectrometers. Results indicated that the forked platform provided thermal delays similar to current platforms for most elements, with peak area sensitivities within 10% of the regular platform. Accuracy tests using an EPA standard and analysis of a difficult environmental sample showed no significant difference in results compared to the current platform design.

Advantages include simple positioning of the tube, easy alignment of the sample dispensing capillary tip, and stability of the platform during operation.
The evaluation examined the determination of five elements: As, Se, Pb, Cd, and Sn.
The Zeeman spectrometer was used for the Cd and Sn measurements.
The atomization temperature for Lead is 2300 degrees.
