This document describes the features and characteristics of IDT's DSC 5900 product, including a 32-bit microprocessor, enhanced MIPS-II ISA, DSP instructions, MMU, cache management, interrupt controller, I2C interface, UARTs, counter/timers, general-purpose I/O pins, SDRAM controller, and peripheral device controller.
The IDT 79RC32355 is a System on a Chip (SoC) designed for embedded communications and digital consumer applications. It integrates a high-performance RC32300 32-bit microprocessor core with enhanced MIPS-II ISA, DSP instructions, and an MMU. The device incorporates a flexible memory and I/O controller supporting SDRAM, Flash ROM, and SRAM, along with a DMA controller to offload data transfer tasks.
Key interfaces include a full-speed USB slave device controller, a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC with MII interface, and an ATM SAR (Service Assembly and Reassembly) unit supporting UTOPIA Level 1 or 2 interfaces. The chip also features a Serial Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) bus for voice and data, making it suitable for xDSL modems, cable modems, and SOHO routers.
