This document describes the method of determining mercury in blood and urine by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) using the VGA 77. The performance of the VGA 77 for mercury determination in these solutions is presented. Various clinical manifestations of mercury intoxication may occur depending on the type of mercury involved. Inhalation of elemental mercury leads to lung, central nervous system (CNS), and kidney damage. CNS damage results in a range of behavioral and neurological deficits. Ingestion of inorganic mercurials can cause severe gastrointestinal damage due to their corrosive nature, which is more clinically significant than mercury exposure. Once absorbed, inorganic mercurials concentrate in the kidney and may cause proximal tubular necrosis. Exposure to organomercurials such as methyl mercury primarily affects the CNS and can be severe, including coma and death. Organomercurials can cross the placenta and affect the unborn child, leading to postnatal cerebral palsy. Organomercurials are typically found in the food chain as a result of methylation of inorganic mercury salts by bacteria.

This paper presents a method for measuring the moisture content in mineral ore samples using near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. It was found that there is a linear relationship between the amount of water absorbed and the non-bonded -OH band at 1900 nm, while no trends were observed for -OH bands at 1400 and 2200 nm. This study is of significant importance for the development of viable methods for extracting, analyzing, and processing oil shale.

This application note describes an analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in waterborne paints with an Agilent J&W DB-1701 GC column. The analysis was per- formed on an Agilent 7890 GC System and confirmed by Agilent GC/MS. The results indicate that the method is rapid, economic and reliable, and meets the requirements of VOC determination in waterborne interior architectural paint.

This Application Note describes a method for fast GC analysis of natural waxes from art and museum objects. The method is based on a short column (15 m x 0.32 mm x 0.1 µm) fitted with on-column injection to maximize sensitivity. For additional sensitivity, some analytical reagents can be used.

This document describes the usage method and experimental conditions of the Beta Blockers Application 2002 LC Column, as well as the compounds detected and their peak identification. The LC column used is Polaris 3µ C18-A with dimensions of 50 x 2.0mm. The eluent consists of A: H2O + 0.1% NH4OH, pH 10.0 (concentration of 25 mM) and B: MeCN, with a gradient ratio of A:B 65:35. The flow rate is 0.6 ml/min, detection is done at UV @ 215nm, and the temperature is set at 40°C.

This document demonstrates the benefits of using an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD) coupled to the Agilent 971-FP Flash instrument for the analysis of a sample containing a mixture of UV and non-UV-active compounds. The ELSD can detect compounds without UV chromophores, preventing the loss of these compounds that would go undetected by UV and be discarded.

This article introduces a simple method for the determination of copper, zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium in serum using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. One milliliter of serum is diluted to 10 milliliters with deionized water, and the determination of seven elements is automatically performed.
