This application note describes an automated analysis method for determining the uniformity of dosage in quinine sulfate tablets using an Agilent fiber-optic autosampler. The method uses a Cary 3C double beam UV/Vis spectrophotometer, Agilent SPS-5 autosampler, Cary fiber probe, and Cary fiber optic coupler. A Cary OS2 concentration application module and simple ADL program are used to locate the peak maximum and its absorbance value, from which the concentration of the analyte can be determined from known standards or a known extinction coefficient. This method has been applied to the measurement of uniformity of dosage for quinine sulfate in tablets using the USP procedure.

The 385-LC ELSD is capable of evaporating a wide range of different solvents, resulting in completely flat baselines and sharp peaks, even during gradient elution.
