Presents a flexible configuration of QuickSwap that allows use of larger id columns, pressure pulse injections, and variable column flow rates without having to change the restrictor or QuickSwap pressure.
QuickSwap is a Capillary Flow Technology device designed to improve the usability of GC/MSD systems by allowing column changes and inlet maintenance without venting the mass spectrometer. Standard configurations require pre-determined maximum flow rates to select appropriate restrictors, which can limit flexibility when using larger columns, pressure pulse injections, or method speed-ups.
This document presents an alternate split configuration that incorporates a vent path on the Aux EPC line. This setup allows the MSD to run at an optimal flow rate (typically 1 to 1.5 mL/min) while accommodating higher column flow rates by venting the excess to a separate detector, such as an FID. The note details the experimental setup, provides specific restrictor and setpoint combinations for optimal performance, and compares results across different column dimensions.
| Optimal flow rate range for MSD with EI source | 1 to 1.5 mL/min |
|---|---|
| QuickSwap restrictor sizes available | 92, 100, 110, and 120 um id |
It allows the MSD to run at an optimal flow rate while accommodating higher column flow rates by venting the excess.
The pressure at QuickSwap will exceed its setpoint and the GC will go 'not ready'.
