The MAX9705 is a 3rd-generation ultra-low EMI mono Class D audio power amplifier that combines Class AB performance with Class D efficiency. It delivers 2.3W into a 4Ω load with efficiencies above 85%. The MAX9705 actively controls the output FET gate transitions to greatly reduce EMI. It also features zero dead time technology and a patented spread-spectrum modulation scheme to eliminate the need for output filtering. The MAX9705 offers fixed-frequency mode and spread-spectrum mode to further reduce EMI-radiated emissions. It can be synchronized to an external clock and supports cascading multiple MAX9705s.

The MAX900-MAX903 high-speed, low-power, single/dual/quad voltage comparators feature differential analog inputs and TTL-logic outputs with active internal pull-ups. Fast propagation delay (8ns typ at 5mV overdrive) makes the MAX900-MAX903 ideal for fast A/D converters and sampling circuits, line receivers, V/F converters, and many other data-discrimination applications. All comparators can be powered from separate analog and digital power supplies or from a single combined supply voltage. The analog input common-mode range includes the negative rail, allowing ground sensing when powered from a single supply. The MAX900-MAX903 consume 18mW per comparator when powered from +5V. The MAX900-MAX903 are equipped with independent TTL-compatible latch inputs. The comparator output states are held when the latch inputs are driven low. The MAX901 provides the same performance as the MAX900/MAX902/MAX903 with the exception of the latches. The MAX3070E-MAX3079E are 3.3V ±15kV ESD-protected RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with one driver and one receiver. They include fail-safe circuitry that guarantees a logic-high receiver output when receiver inputs are open or shorted. The receiver outputs a logic high if all transmitters on a terminated bus are disabled (high impedance). They also feature hot-swap capability to eliminate false transitions on the bus during power-up or hot insertion. The MAX3070E/MAX3071E/MAX3072E have reduced slew-rate drivers that minimize EMI and reduce reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, allowing error-free data transmission up to 250kbps. The MAX3073E/MAX3074E/MAX3075E also have slew-rate-limited drivers but allow transmit speeds up to 500kbps. The MAX3076E/MAX3077E/MAX3078E driver slew rates are not limited, making transmit speeds up to 16Mbps possible. The MAX3079E slew rate is pin selectable for 250kbps, 500kbps, and 16Mbps. The MAX3072E/MAX3075E/MAX3078E are intended for half-duplex communications, and the MAX3070E/MAX3071E/MAX3073E/MAX3074E/MAX3076E/MAX3077E are intended for full-duplex communications. The MAX3079E is selectable for half-duplex or full-duplex operation. It also features independently programmable receiver and transmitter output phase through separate pins. The MAX3070E-MAX3079E transceivers draw 800µA of supply current when unloaded or when fully loaded with the drivers disabled.

The MAX308/MAX309 are Maxim's single-chip CMOS precision analog multiplexers, which have low on-resistance, low leakage, fast switching speed and are widely used in various circuits.

The MAX8804W/MAX8804Y/MAX8804Z are intelligent, dual-input, stand-alone, constant-current, constant-voltage (CCCV), thermally regulated linear chargers designed for a single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) battery. They integrate the current-sense circuit, MOS pass element, thermal-regulation circuitry, and overvoltage protection (OVP), and eliminate the reverse-blocking Schottky diode to create a simple and small charging solution for handheld equipment.

MAX917/MAX918/MAX919/MAX920 series nanopower comparators feature ultra-low supply current (only 380nA), guaranteed to operate down to +1.8V, and are ideal for all 2-cell battery applications, including monitoring/management, ultra-low-power systems, mobile communications, notebooks and PDAs, threshold detectors/discriminators, sensing at ground or supply line, telemetry and remote systems, medical instruments, etc.

Operating from a 1.8V single power supply, the MAX9509/ MAX9510 amplify standard-definition video signals and only consume 5.8mW quiescent power and 11.7mW average power. The MAX9509/MAX9510 leverage Maxim’s DirectDrive™ technology to generate a clean, internal negative supply. Combining the internal negative power supply with the external positive 1.8V supply, the MAX9509/MAX9510 are able to drive a 2VP-P video signal into a 150Ω load. Besides increasing the output voltage range, Maxim’s DirectDrive technology eliminates large output-coupling capacitors and sets the output video black level near ground. DirectDrive requires an integrated charge pump and an internal linear regulator to create a clean negative power supply so that the amplifier can pull the sync below ground. The charge pump injects little noise into the video output, making the picture visibly flawless. The MAX9509/MAX9510 are designed to operate from the 1.8V digital power supply. The high power-supply rejection ratio (49dB at 100kHz) allows the MAX9509/ MAX9510 to reject the noise from the digital power supply. The MAX9509 features an internal reconstruction filter that smoothes the steps and reduces the spikes on the video signal from the video digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The reconstruction filter typically has ±1dB passband flatness of 8.1MHz and 46dB attenuation at 27MHz. The large-signal, ±1dB passband flatness of the MAX9510 video amplifier is typically 8.4MHz.

The MAX9723 is a stereo DirectDrive® headphone amplifier with BassMax and volume control from MAXIM. It is ideal for portable audio applications where space is at a premium and performance is essential. The device operates from a single 1.8V to 3.6V power supply and includes features that reduce external component count, system cost, board space, and improve audio reproduction. The headphone amplifier uses Maxim's patented DirectDrive architecture that produces a ground-referenced output from a single supply, eliminating the need for large DC-blocking capacitors. The headphone amplifiers deliver 62mW into a 16Ω load, feature low 0.006% THD+N, and high 90dB PSRR. The MAX9723 features Maxim's industry-leading click-and-pop suppression. The BassMax feature boosts the bass response of the amplifier, improving audio reproduction when using inexpensive headphones. The integrated volume control features 32 discrete volume levels, eliminating the need for an external potentiometer. BassMax and the volume control are enabled through the I2C/SMBus™-compatible interface. Shutdown is controlled through either the hardware or software interfaces. The MAX9723 consumes only 3.7mA of supply current at 1.8V, provides short-circuit and thermal-overload protection, and is fully specified over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The MAX9723 is available in a tiny (2mm x 2mm x 0.62mm) 16-bump chip-scale package (UCSP™) or 16-pin thin QFN (4mm x 4mm x 0.8mm) package. Applications

The MAX639/MAX640/MAX653 step-down switching regulators provide high efficiency over a wide range of load currents, delivering up to 225mA. A current-limiting pulse-frequency-modulated (PFM) control scheme gives the devices the benefits of pulse-width-modulated (PWM) converters (high efficiency at heavy loads), while using only 10µA of supply current (vs. 2mA to 10mA for PWM converters).

The MAX1698 and MAX1698A are efficient drivers for white or color LEDs. They are ideal for large LED backlit displays in PDAs and laptop computers. Numerous benefits include greater simplicity, lower cost, higher efficiency, longer bulb life, and greater reliability when compared to fluorescent (CCFL) and electrolumines- cent (EL) lamps. The MAX1698/MAX1698A are switch-mode boost con- trollers in which LED current, rather than output voltage, is regulated The devices drive series-connected LEDs with a controlled current that is measured with a typically- ly 15Ω sense resistor, not an expensive fractional-ohm value. LED current control and dimming are accom- plished with an adjust input (ADJ). For larger light out- put, multiple LED banks can be connected in parallel with up to 5W total output power. The MAX1698A has a higher, and more accurately specified, CS current limit than the MAX1698 for higher- power applications of 5W or more. Both devices are supplied in a space-saving 10-pin µMAX package that occupies half the space of an 8-pin SO. An evaluation kit (MAX1698EVKIT) is available to speed designs.

The MAX6960–MAX6963 are compact cathode-row display drivers that interface microprocessors to 8 x 8 dot-matrix red, green, and yellow (R,G,Y) LED displays through a high-speed 4-wire serial interface. The MAX6960–MAX6963 drive two monocolor 8 x 8 matrix displays, or a single RGY 8 x 8 matrix display with no external components. The driver can also be used with external pass transistors to control red, green, blue (RGB) and other displays at higher currents and voltages. The MAX6960–MAX6963 feature open- and short-circuit LED detection, and provide both analog and digital tile segment current calibration to allow 8 x 8 displays from different batches to be compensated or color matched. A local 3-wire bus synchronizes multiple interconnected MAX6960–MAX6963s and automatically allocates memory map addresses to suit the user’s display-panel architecture. The MAX6960–MAX6963s’ 4-wire interface connects multiple drivers, with display memory mapping shared and allocated among the drivers. A single global write operation can send a command to all MAX6960s in a panel. The MAX6963 drives monocolor displays with two-step intensity control. The MAX6962 drives monocolor displays with two-step or four-step intensity control. The MAX6961 drives monocolor or RGY displays with two-step intensity control. MAX8520/MAX8521 are designed to drive thermo- electric coolers (TECs) in space-constrained optical modules. Both devices deliver ±1.5A output current and control the TEC current to eliminate harmful current surges. On-chip FETs minimize external components and high switching frequency reduces the size of external components. The MAX8520 and MAX8521 operate from a single supply and bias the TEC between the outputs of two synchro- nous buck regulators. This operation allows for temper- ature control without “dead zones” or other nonlinearities at low current. This arrangement ensures that the control system does not hunt when the set point is very close to the natural operating point, requiring a small amount of heating or cooling. An analog control signal precisely sets the TEC current. Both devices feature accurate, individually adjustable heating current limit and cooling current limit, along with maximum TEC voltage limit to improve the reliability of optical modules. An analog output signal monitors the TEC current. A unique ripple cancellation scheme helps reduce noise. The MAX8520 is available in a 5mm x 5mm thin QFN package and its switching frequency is adjustable up to 1MHz through an external resistor. The MAX8521 is also available in a 5mm x 5mm thin QFN, as well as a space- saving 3mm x 3mm UCSP™, with a pin-selectable switching frequency of 500kHz or 1MHz. The MAX9890 provides click-and-pop suppression for devices such as CODECs with integrated headphone amplifiers that lack a clickless/popless startup/power- up or shutdown/power-down. The device controls the ramping of the DC bias voltage on the output-coupling capacitors and the application of the audio signal to ensure that no audible transients are present at the headphones. The MAX9890A features a 200ms startup time for use with up to 100µF coupling capacitors. The MAX9890B features a 330ms startup time for use with greater than 100µF coupling capacitors. The MAX9890 consumes 14µA of supply current and 0.001µA in shutdown, while contributing less than 0.003% THD+N into a 32Ω load. ESD (Human Body Model) protection circuitry on the outputs protect the MAX9890 and devices further up the signal chain from ESD strikes up to ±8kV. The MAX9890 is available in a miniature (1.5mm ✕ 1.5mm ✕ 0.6mm) 9-bump chip-scale package (UCSP™), as well as an 8-pin TDFN package (3mm ✕ 3mm ✕ 0.8mm), and is specified for operation over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.
