The MAX7360 is an I2C bus-interfaced key-switch controller from Maxim for managing up to 64 key switches, with an additional eight LED drivers/GPIOs that feature constant-current, PWM intensity control, and rotary switch control options.

The MAX7370 is an 8 x 8 key-switch controller and LED driver/GPIOs with I2C interface and a high level of ESD protection. It provides microprocessors with management of up to 64 key switches, with optional GPIO and PWM-controlled LED drivers. The key-switch drivers interface with metallic or resistive switches with on-resistances up to 5kΩ. The IC features autosleep and autowake modes to minimize power consumption. It also has key controller debouncing and a FIFO buffer for keypress and release events.

The MAX11041 wired remote controller converts up to 30 different pushbuttons into an I2C register. Together with low-cost pushbutton switches and 1% resistors, the MAX11041 is a total solution over a single-wire interface. A wired remote controller easily piggybacks to a standard 3.5mm headphone jack using a fourth contact or one of the audio signals. To conserve battery life, the MAX11041 consumes only 5µA (typ) while reading keypresses in real time without microprocessor (µP) polling. The device sends the debounced keypress along with key duration to the application processor over the I2C interface. An 8-word FIFO buffer records up to four keypress events to allow plenty of time for the application processor to respond to the MAX11041. The MAX11041 includes ±15kV ESD protection devices on the FORCE and SENSE inputs to ensure IEC 61000-4-2 compliance without any external ESD devices. The MAX11041 is available in a 12-pin TQFN package. The device is specified over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C).

MAX7365 is an I2C-interfaced 8×7 key switch controller with GPIO ports. It provides microprocessors with management of up to 56 key switches. Keys codes generated for each keypress and release enable easier implementation of multiple key entries. Key inputs monitored statically, not dynamically, ensure low-EMI operation. The switches can be metallic or resistive (carbon) with up to 5kΩ of resistance. The device features autosleep and autowake to further minimize the power consumption of the device. The autosleep feature puts the device in a low-power state (1µA typical) after a programmable sleep timeout period. The autowake feature configures the device to return to normal operating mode from sleep upon a keypress. The key controller debounces and maintains a FIFO of key-press and release events (including autorepeat, if enabled). An interrupt (INT) output can be configured to alert key-presses either as they occur or at the maximum rate. Unused key switches can be used as GPI. In addition, there are five additional general-purpose input/output (GPIO) ports. GPOs can be programmed as push-pull or open-drain to high.

The MAX7301 is a 4-wire serial interface I/O expander chip from MAXIM Corporation. It supports 20/28 I/O ports and can be configured as open drain output, Schmitt input, Schmitt input with internal pull-up, and supports logic transition detection. The maximum operating current is 11µA, and the operating temperature range is -40℃~+125℃

The MAX7310 is a 2-wire interfaced 8-bit I/O port expander with reset. It provides 8-bit parallel input/output port expansion for SMBus-compatible and I2C-compatible applications. The MAX7310 consists of an input port register, an output port register, a polarity inversion register, a configuration register, a bus timeout register, and an SMBus/I2C-compatible serial interface. The system master can invert the MAX7310 input data by writing to the active-high polarity inversion register. The system master can enable or disable bus timeout by writing to the bus timeout register. Any of the eight I/O ports may be configured as input or output. An active-low reset input sets the eight I/Os as inputs. Three address select pins configure one of 56 slave ID addresses. The MAX7310 is available in 16-pin thin QFN, TSSOP, and QSOP packages and is specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range.

MAX7321 is an 8-channel I/O open-drain output chip launched by Texas Instruments (TI). It can be used to receive and drive sensor analog signals. The maximum working voltage is 5.5V and the working temperature range is -40°C to +125°C.

The MAX7316 is an I2C/SMBus-compatible serial interfaced peripheral that provides microprocessors with eight additional I/O ports plus one output-only port and one input-only port. Each I/O port can be individually configured as an open-drain current-sinking output rated to 50mA at 5.5V or as a logic input with transition detection. The output-only port can also be assigned as an interrupt output for transition detection. The outputs are capable of driving LEDs or providing logic outputs with external resistive pullup up to 5.5V. Eight-bit PWM current control is available for all nine output ports. Four bits are global control and apply to all LED outputs to provide coarse adjustment of current from fully off to fully on in 14 intensity steps. Additionally, each output has individual 4-bit control, which further divides the globally set current into 16 more steps. Alternatively, the current control can be configured as a single 8-bit control that sets all outputs at once. Each output has independent blink timing with two blink phases. LEDs can be individually set to be on or off during either blink phase or to ignore the blink control. The blink period is controlled by an external clock input (up to 1kHz) on BLINK or by a register. The MAX7315 is an I2C-/SMBus-compatible serial interfaced peripheral that provides microprocessors with 8 I/O ports. Each I/O port can be individually configured as either an open-drain current-sinking output rated at 50mA at 5.5V, or a logic input with transition detection. A ninth port can be used for transition detection interrupt or as a general-purpose output. The outputs are capable of directly driving LEDs, or providing logic outputs with external resistive pullup up to 5.5V. PWM current drive is integrated with 8 bits of control. Four bits are global control and apply to all LED outputs to provide coarse adjustment of current from fully off to fully on in 14 intensity steps. Each output then has individual 4-bit control, which further divides the globally set current into 16 more steps. Alternatively, the current control can be configured as a single 8-bit control that sets all outputs at once. The MAX7315 is pin and software compatible with the PCA9534 and PCA9554(A). Each output has independent blink timing with two blink phases. All LEDs can be individually set to be on or off during either blink phase, or to ignore the blink control. The blink period is controlled by a register. The MAX7315 supports hot insertion. The MAX7314 is a 16-bit I/O expander from TI that supports I2C bus interface. This device can be configured as output ports or input ports, output ports can drive LEDs, and input ports can detect logic levels. The MAX7314 has a built-in 8-bit PWM current control that can be used to control the current of all 17 output ports.

The MAX7313 is a 16 I/O port I2C-compatible serial interface peripheral that can be configured as either an open-drain current-sinking output or a logic input with transition detection. It supports PWM current drive and is pin and software compatible with the MAX7311, PCA9535, and PCA9555.

The DS4520 is a 9-bit nonvolatile (NV) I/O expander with 64 bytes of NV user memory controlled by an I2C- compatible serial interface. The DS4520 offers users a digitally programmable alternative to hardware jumpers and mechanical switches that are being used to control digital logic nodes. Furthermore, the digital state of each pin can be read through the serial interface. Each I/O pin is independently configurable. The outputs are open drain with selectable pullups. Each output has the ability to sink up to 12mA. Since the device is NV, it powers up in the desired state allowing it to control digital logic inputs immediately on power-up without having to wait for the host CPU to initiate control.

The MAX7318 2-wire-interfaced expander provides 16-bit parallel input/output (I/O) port expansion for SMBus™ and I2C applications. The MAX7318 consists of input port registers, output port registers, polarity inversion registers, configuration registers, and an I2C-compatible serial interface logic compatible with SMBus. The system master can invert the MAX7318 input data by writing to the active-high polarity inversion register. Any of the 16 I/O ports can be configured as an input or output. A power-on reset (POR) initializes the 16 I/Os as inputs. Three address select pins configure one of 64 slave ID addresses. The MAX7318 supports hot insertion. The DS4550 is a 9-bit, nonvolatile (NV) I/O expander with 64 bytes of NV user memory controlled by either an I2C-compatible serial interface or an IEEE 1149.1 JTAG port. The DS4550 offers a digitally programmable alternative to hardware jumpers and mechanical switches that are being used to control digital logic nodes. Each I/O pin is independently configurable. The outputs are open drain with selectable pullups. Each output has the ability to sink up to 16mA, and since the device is NV, it powers up in the desired state allowing it to control digital logic inputs immediately on power- up without having to wait for the host CPU to initiate control.

The MAX7327 is a 2-wire serial interface peripheral that features 12 push-pull outputs and four configurable open-drain I/O ports with selectable internal pullups and transition detection. Ports are overvoltage protected to +6V, independent of supply voltage. The four I/O ports configured as inputs are continuously monitored for state changes (transition detection). State changes are indicated by the open-drain, +6V-tolerant INT output. The interrupt is latched, detecting transient changes. When the MAX7327 is subsequently accessed through the serial interface, any pending interrupt is cleared. The 12 push-pull and the four open-drain outputs are rated to sink 20mA, and are capable of driving LEDs. The RST input clears the serial interface, terminating any I2C communication to or from the MAX7327. The MAX7327 uses two address inputs with four-level logic to allow 16 I2C slave addresses. The slave address also determines the power-up logic state for the I/O ports, and enables or disables internal 40kΩ pullups in groups of two ports. The MAX7327 is one device in a family of pin-compatible port expanders with a choice of input ports, open-drain I/O ports, and push-pull output ports (see Table 1).
