Determination of Toxic Elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine Using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry
This document details a method for analyzing 13 toxic elements (Be, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Ag, Cd, Ba, Hg, Tl, and Pb) in Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs). The analysis utilizes Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) following microwave digestion for sample preparation. The method was validated using certified reference materials (shrub leaves and tea leaves) and standard addition recovery experiments, showing detection limits between 0.1 and 7.2 ng/g and recovery percentages between 90.3% and 109.7%.
| Instrument Model | Agilent 7500c ICP-MS |
|---|---|
| Microwave System | CEM MARS5 |
| Plasma Power | 1350 W |
| Plasma Gas Flow | 15.0 L/min |
| Auxiliary Gas Flow | 1.0 L/min |
| Target Elements | Be, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Ag, Cd, Ba, Hg, Tl, Pb |
| Detection Limits Range | 0.1-7.2 ng/g |
The method analyzes 13 toxic elements: Be, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Ag, Cd, Ba, Hg, Tl, and Pb.
The method detection limits for all target elements were between 0.1 and 7.2 ng/g.
The recovery percentages for all elements were between 90.3% and 109.7%.
Two certified reference materials, shrub leaves (GBW07602) and tea leaves (GBW08518), were used.
