About this manual

The handbook describes the MLX90805 Intelligent Triac Controller, a power‑control IC designed for soft‑start and speed control of resistive or inductive loads such as AC motors and dimmers. It explains the internal architecture, including the voltage regulator, oscillator, frequency‑locked loop, ADC, ROM table, zero‑cross detector, logic, and triac driver.

Application circuits for soft‑start only, as well as 2‑wire and 3‑wire potentiometer configurations, are provided with performance graphs. Pinout, electrical specifications, package dimensions, and option settings are listed for designers integrating the device into their products.

Frequently asked questions

How many firing angles can be stored in the ROM table?

The ROM can store up to 16 different firing angles, each defined by a 10‑bit value.

What voltage supplies the internal digital circuitry?

The internal digital circuitry is powered by a 5 V supply derived from the external VDDA.

How is the triac gate current configured?

The triac driver provides a gate current selectable between 30 mA and 90 mA (ITRG).
