Intersil X28HC64 EEPROM Data Sheet

The X28HC64 is an 8K x 8 EEPROM fabricated with Intersil’s proprietary, high performance, floating gate CMOS technology. Like all Intersil programmable non-volatile memories, the X28HC64 is a 5V only device. It features the JEDEC approved pinout for byte-wide memories, compatible with industry standard RAMs. The X28HC64 supports a 64-byte page write operation, with an average write cycle of 2ms, and a complete memory rewrite time of 0.25 seconds. The chip has a durability of 1 million cycles and a data retention of 100 years.

About this manual

The X28HC64 is an 8K × 8‑bit EEPROM fabricated with Intersil’s high‑performance floating‑gate CMOS technology. It operates from a single 5 V supply, offers a 70 ns access time, and supports both byte‑ and page‑write operations. Key features include low power consumption (40 mA active, 200 µA standby), 1 million write‑cycle endurance, and 100‑year data retention.

The document lists ordering information for multiple package types, pin descriptions, and detailed write‑cycle timing. It also describes hardware and software data‑protection mechanisms, including default VCC sense, write‑inhibit, and a programmable software protection mode. Timing diagrams for DATA polling, toggle‑bit detection, and CE‑controlled write cycles are provided.

Frequently asked questions

What is the access time of the X28HC64?

The access time is 70 ns.

How many bytes can be written in a single page write operation?

Up to 64 bytes can be written in one page write.

How is software data protection enabled on the X28HC64?

The host must perform a three‑write sequence to specific addresses, after which the device enters a protected state.
