This application note describes the implementation of US EPA 200.7 guidelines for the analysis of trace elements in water using the Agilent SVS 2, a new and innovative sample introduction system for the Agilent 720/730 Series ICP-OES.

An analytical method for screening and confirming the presence of 84 pharmaceuti- cals and 23 labeled standards in water samples for a total of 107 components was developed using the Agilent 6460 Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer (Triple Quad MS) with Jet Stream Technology.

This application note provides a method for comprehensive detection of pesticides in vegetable juice matrices using GC/MS and LC/MS methods. Methods have been developed on Agilent GC/MS and LC/MS instrument platforms that reliably detect and quantitate 39 pesticides in a vegetable juice matrix. Most of the limits of quantitation (LOQ) values for GC/MS SIM ranged from 5 to 50 ng/mL, compared with 0.25 ng/mL to 10 ng/mL for GC/MS/MS, and 0.1 ng/mL to 10 ng/mL for LC/MS/MS. Both sensitivity and selectivity are improved using MS/MS and recovery of most spiked pesticides ranged from 70 to 120%.

This document describes the analysis of BTEX in natural water using SPME technique. BTEX are monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with moderate solubility. They are constituents of mineral oil products and widely used as solvents in industrial processes. Additionally, they are major water-soluble constituents of petroleum derivatives (gasoline). The author used GC with FID for analysis and provided detailed information on the instrumentation and conditions.

The document describes the use of the Agilent 6550 iFunnel Q-TOF LC/MS system for high-throughput, high-efficiency metabolome profiling. Compared to the previous generation Q-TOF instrument, this platform has increased sensitivity and resolution, resulting in the detection of an order of magnitude more ions. It provides a 6 to 7-fold increase in coverage of the E. coli metabolome and more detailed pathway analysis.

A miniaturized automated sample preparation method is described for the determination of fatty acid methyl esters in blood or plasma samples using the Agilent 7693 Series Automatic Liquid Sampler. Fifty-microliter samples are derivatized using acetyl chloride in methanol and the fatty acid methyl esters are extracted in iso-octane. Extracts are analyzed by GC-FID. Excellent repeatability is obtained and the method can be applied for fully automated fatty acid profiling in blood and plasma samples during dietary, biomedical or metabolomic studies.

This article introduces two methods for detecting toxins in wheat using different sample preparation methods, a modified QuEChERS method and the Agilent Bond Elut mycotoxin SPE method. The results showed that both methods can effectively detect toxins in wheat, but the modified QuEChERS method is faster and uses less solvent and sorbent.

This document describes a comprehensive method for profiling free and conjugated estrogens using capillary electrophoresis-time of flight-mass spectrometry. The method is sensitive and robust.

This Application Note demonstrates that stringent sensitivity requirements for the detection of potentially harmful primary aromatic amines can be fulfilled when using an Agilent 1290 Infinity LC System equipped with the 1290 large volume injection kit. This enables the Agilent 1290 Infinity Autosampler for injection volumes up to 120 μL for sample enrichment on the column. A high sensitivity 60-mm Max-Light flow cell in the Agilent 1290 Infinity Diode Array Detector gives additional detection sensitivity.
