About this manual

The SN54ABT162245 and SN74ABT162245 devices are 16-bit noninverting 3-state transceivers designed for synchronous two-way communication between data buses. They can be configured as two 8-bit transceivers or one 16-bit transceiver, allowing data transmission from the A bus to the B bus or vice versa based on the DIR input logic level.

These devices feature a flow-through architecture that optimizes PCB layout and includes distributed VCC and GND pins to minimize high-speed switching noise. The A-port outputs are designed to source or sink up to 12 mA and include equivalent 25-Ω series resistors to reduce overshoot and undershoot. Additionally, the devices support partial-power-down mode using logic '0' to disable outputs and prevent damaging current backflow.

Frequently asked questions

How is the direction of data transmission controlled?

Data transmission depends on the logic level at the DIR input, allowing transfer from A to B bus or B to A bus.

What is the purpose of the OE input?

The output-enable (OE) input can be used to disable the device so that the buses are effectively isolated.
