This manual provides detailed information on using the Agilent G1978B Multimode Source for LC/MS analysis.
This user guide provides instructions for installing, operating, and maintaining the Agilent G1978B multimode ion source for the 6410 Triple Quad LC/MS system. It includes safety precautions, daily and weekly cleaning procedures, method setup using MassHunter software, and technical specifications. The guide also covers conversion between ionization modes and safety hazards associated with high voltage and hot components.
The document is structured into three main sections: Basic Operation and Maintenance, Installation, and Reference. It includes detailed steps for setting up methods, opening the source, cleaning, autotuning, and troubleshooting. Safety warnings are emphasized for handling hot parts and sharp components like the nebulizer needle and vaporizer sensor.

In MassHunter software, change the Context to Acquisition, set Ion source to MMI, choose an ionization mode from the Ion Mode list, set source conditions, and save the method.
Do not touch hot parts like the capillary or vaporizer sensor. Avoid touching sharp components like the nebulizer needle or APCI corona needle. Never bypass the diverter valve. Use extreme care when working on recently turned-off instruments.
Turn off all voltages and temperatures, wait 20 minutes for cooling, open the spray chamber cover, and check alignment of components like the vaporizer sensor and APCI corona needle.
