This document introduces the Performance Characteristics of the Agilent High Matrix Sample Introduction (HMI) Accessory for the 7500 Series ICP-MS Product Overview, which can improve the performance of ICP-MS in high-concentration samples and reduce dissolved solids (TDS) levels to achieve better and more stable performance.
The High Matrix Sample Introduction (HMI) Accessory is designed for the Agilent 7500 Series Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). It utilizes an aerosol dilution technique combined with a robust Octopole Reaction System (ORS) to handle samples with high total dissolved solids (TDS), typically up to 1% or higher, without the need for conventional sample dilution. This approach eliminates associated drawbacks such as increased detection limits and contamination risks while significantly improving plasma stability.
The HMI accessory enables the 7500 ORS to analyze samples with up to 1% total dissolved solids (TDS) or higher, depending on the matrix.
HMI reduces the CeO*/Ce* ratio down to approximately 0.2%, which is significantly lower than the typical 2% to 3% found in other instruments.
No, once the HMI is fitted, normal and HMI mode conditions can be switched automatically within a single sequence without disconnecting any gas lines.
