The document describes a special feature digital thermometer that measures temperatures from -55°C to +100°C in approximately 0.2 seconds. The thermometer has zero standby power, 0.5°C resolution, and the digital temperature reading is the two's complement of the °C value. It can access internal counters to increase resolution through interpolation. The thermometer reduces control, address, data, and power to a single data contact. It also has an 8-bit device-generated CRC for data integrity, an 8-bit family code that specifies DS1920 communications requirements to the reader, and a special command set that allows the user to skip the ROM section and perform temperature measurements simultaneously for all devices on the bus. It has 2 bytes of EEPROM that can be used as alarm triggers or user memory, and the alarm search function directly indicates which device senses alarming temperatures.
