Bass Management is a tool used to help surround speaker systems reproduce the full spectrum of sound from surround-encoded material. It reroutes low frequency sounds from satellite channels to a subwoofer, ensuring that low-frequency sounds are heard even if they were originally routed to smaller satellite speakers. Bass Management is only necessary for smaller satellite speakers that cannot reproduce low bass frequencies. The M-Audio Bass Management system also includes additional features such as subwoofer loudness limiting, subwoofer phase inversion, and time-alignment on all channels.
The M-Audio Bass Management 2 is a utility designed to help surround speaker systems reproduce full-spectrum sound by re-routing low-frequency sounds from satellite channels to the subwoofer. This ensures that bass frequencies are heard even when connected to smaller satellite speakers incapable of reproducing them. The tool includes additional features such as subwoofer loudness limiting, phase inversion, and time-alignment.
You will only need to use the Bass Management functions when using smaller satellite speakers that cannot reproduce low bass frequencies.
The system momentarily attenuates (reduces) the output volume when the signal exceeds available digital headroom to prevent clipping and distortion.
Check the +180° box; if you notice that the bass level increases, leave it checked. If the bass level decreases, leave it unchecked.
