This document describes the method of using Agilent ResiPore columns and gel permeation chromatography to analyze phenolic resins
Phenolic resins are thermosetting polymers used in electrical insulation, molding, lamination, and adhesives. Their properties depend significantly on their molecular weight distribution and oligomeric fingerprint.
Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is an ideal tool for examining these characteristics. This document details the analysis of four distinct grades of phenolic resin using high-resolution Agilent ResiPore columns with a particle size of 3 µm, which provide optimized separation in the molecular weight range of interest.
| Column particle size | 3 µm |
|---|---|
| Eluent | THF stabilized with 250 ppm BHT |
| Flow rate | 1.0 mL/min |
| Injection volume | 20 µL |
| Detector type | RI |
The small particle size of this column packing material is 3 ym.
Two columns measuring 7.5 x 300 mm with part number PL1113-6300 were used.
The flow rate is set to 1.0 mL/min with an injection volume of 20 pL.
