This document describes the features and characteristics of a contactless smartcard reader chip set from STMicroelectronics.
The ST16-19RFRDCS010 contactless reader chip set includes an analog front‑end dedicated to ISO 14443‑2 Type B smart‑card readers and an FPGA version that complies with ISO 14443‑3 Type B. Both versions provide power, amplitude‑modulated data transfer to the card and load‑modulated data transfer to the reader.
Key features include a 12 V supply for the analog front‑end, 10 % ASK modulation, up to 424 Kbit/s data rates in both directions, a 13.56 MHz quartz oscillator with 100 ppm tolerance, and an 8‑bit parallel MCU interface with a 256‑byte FIFO. The FPGA version operates at 3.3 V and offers programmable data rates of 106, 212, or 424 Kbit/s.
| Supply voltage (analog front end) | 12 V |
|---|---|
| Modulation | 10% ASK |
| Data transfer to card | up to 424 KBit/second |
| Data transfer to reader | up to 424 KBit/second |
| Quartz oscillator | 13.56 MHz + 100 ppm |
| Supply voltage (FPGA version) | 3.3 V |
| Programmable data rates | 106/212/424 KBit/second |
| Interface to MCU | 8‑bit parallel |
| FIFO size | 256 Bytes |
The analog front‑end version complies with ISO 14443‑2 Type B, while the FPGA version complies with ISO 14443‑3 Type B.
Both directions support up to 424 KBit/second.
The analog front end requires a 12 V supply.
