This document is an introduction to the PIC C Compiler. The compiler is fully optimized for use with PIC microcontrollers and includes built-in functions that make software coding very easy. It integrates with MPLAB and other simulators/emulators for source-level debugging. The compiler also provides access to hardware through easy-to-use C functions, including timers, A/D conversion, E2 storage, SSP, PSP, I2C, and more. It supports inserting assembly code anywhere in the source and referencing C variables. The compiler automatically handles linking of multiple code pages and supports inline procedures. Constants (including strings and arrays) are saved in program memory. In summary, the compiler offers a fast method for generating efficient code and is easy to maintain.
