About this manual

The MAX3221/3223/3243 family provides true RS‑232 performance from a single 3 V‑5.5 V supply. They feature Maxim’s AutoShutdown technology, which reduces supply current to 1 µA when no valid RS‑232 signal is present, saving power in notebook and handheld applications. The devices support data rates up to 235 kbps and require only 0.1 pF capacitors for 3.3 V operation.

These transceivers are offered in multiple packages (SSOP, TSSOP, DIP, Wide‑SO) and operate over a temperature range of –40 °C to +85 °C, making them suitable for battery‑powered equipment, sub‑notebooks, and other space‑constrained systems. Detailed pin descriptions, electrical characteristics, and application notes are included for designers.
