L79L00 is a fixed voltage regulator that provides -5, -6, -8, -9, -12, -15 V output voltage. It has built-in current limiting and thermal shutdown, which makes it essentially indestructible. It can deliver up to 100 mA output current if sufficient heat sink is provided. It is intended for use in a wide range of applications, including local or on-card regulation for eliminating noise and distribution problems associated with single-point regulation. In addition, it can be used with power pass elements to make high-current voltage regulators. The L79L00 series used as Zener diode/resistor combination replacement, offers an effective output impedance improvement of typically two orders of magnitude, along with lower quiescent current and lower noise.
