TDA8552T and TDA8552TS are audio power amplifier chips produced by Philips Semiconductors. They support digital volume control and headphone sensing functions, and can be used in portable consumer products, notebook computers and communication equipment.
The Philips TDA8552T and TDA8552TS are dual‑channel audio power amplifiers delivering 1.4 W per channel into an 8 Ω load from a 5 V supply. They feature bridge‑tied load (BTL) operation, digital volume control with 64 steps, gain selection (20 dB or 30 dB), standby/mute modes, and a headphone‑sensing input that switches the device to single‑ended mode when a headphone is connected.
The devices are supplied in a 20‑pin SOIC (TDA8552T) or SSOP20 (TDA8552TS) package, include internal thermal shutdown protection, and meet IEC‑60134 absolute‑maximum ratings. Typical specifications such as supply voltage range, output power, THD, and thermal resistance are provided in the data tables.
| Supply voltage (Vop) | 2.7 V – 5.5 V |
|---|---|
| Quiescent supply current (BTL, Vpp = 5 V) | 14 mA – 20 mA |
| Gain (low) | 20 dB |
| Gain (high) | 30 dB |
| Number of volume steps | 64 |
| Total harmonic distortion (THD) | ≤0.1 % at 1 W |
| Supply voltage ripple rejection (SVRR) | 50 dB |
| Maximum power dissipation (T020 package) | 2.2 W |
| Maximum power dissipation (SSOP20 package) | 1.41 W |
The HPS pin detects a headphone plug; when high (Vpp) the device switches from BTL to single‑ended mode, turning off the loudspeaker outputs and reducing quiescent current.
The digital volume control provides 64 discrete steps.
