ADM560/ADM561 is an ultralow power +3.3 V RS-232 notebook PC serial port driver/receiver. It features RS-232 compatibility, operates with 3 V or 5 V logic, ultralow power CMOS technology, and is suitable for serial port mice.
The ADM560 and ADM561 are ultralow‑power RS‑232 driver/receiver devices designed for notebook computers, peripherals, modems, printers, and battery‑operated equipment. They operate from a single +3.3 V supply and include an on‑board charge‑pump converter that generates +6.6 V and –6.6 V, allowing operation with 3 V or 5 V logic levels.
The datasheet details electrical specifications, absolute maximum ratings, pin‑out diagrams, typical performance curves, and the enable/shutdown control logic. It also includes a functional block diagram, theory of operation, and notes on ESD sensitivity and packaging (28‑lead SOIC/SSOP).
| Output Voltage Swing | +5.0 V to +5.5 V |
|---|---|
| Power Supply Current (VEE) | 3.5 mA to 5 mA (no load) |
| Shutdown Supply Current | 0.2 pA (ADM560) to 5 pA (ADM561) |
| EIA‑232 Input Voltage Range | -25 V to +25 V |
| Input Logic Threshold Low | 0.4 V |
The devices consume only about 5 mW, corresponding to a supply current of 3.5 mA to 5 mA at 3.3 V.
The shutdown current is 0.2 pA for the ADM560 and 5 pA for the ADM561.
Two receivers remain active in shutdown mode for the ADM560, allowing monitoring of peripheral devices.
