This application note provides I2C firmware optimized examples based on polling, interrupts and DMA, covering the four I2C communication modes available in the STM32F10xxx, that is, slave transmitter, slave receiver, master transmitter and master receiver.

This application note describes how to achieve optimum ADC accuracy on the STM32F10xxx. It first introduces various factors related to ADC design, such as external hardware design parameters and different types of ADC error sources. Then, some design recommendations are given, and how to reduce errors in hardware is proposed.

This application note is intended for system designers who require a hardware implementation overview of the low-power modes of the STM8S and STM8A product families. It shows how to use the STM8S and STM8A devices in these modes, describes how to take power consumption and wakeup time measurements, and gives results for such measurements.

This application note provides an overview of the hardware implementation of STM8S low-power modes and provides firmware examples to measure STM8S power consumption and wake-up time in different modes.

This application note introduces the Pierce oscillator basics and provides some guidelines for a good oscillator design.

The IRSF3010 is a three terminal monolithic SMART POWER MOSFET with built in short circuit, over-temperature, ESD and over-voltage protections.

This document describes the methods for calibrating the internal RC oscillator (HSI) of the STM32F10xxx microcontrollers. By calibrating, the accuracy of the HSI frequency can be improved, which is crucial for communication peripherals.

The IRSF3011 is a three-terminal monolithic Smart Power MOSFET with built-in short circuit, over-temperature, ESD and over-voltage pro-tections.

The IRSF3021 Lamp and DC Motor Driver is a fully protected three terminal monolithic SMART POWER MOSFET that features current limiting, over-temperature protection, gate-to-source ESD protection and gate-to-drain clamp for over-voltage protection. The on-chip protection circuit limits the drain current in the on-state. The over-temperature circuitry turns off the POWER MOSFET when the junction temperature exceeds 165°C. The device restarts automatically once it has cooled down below the reset temperature. The IRSF3021 is specifically designed for driving loads that require overload protection and in-rush current control while operating in automotive and industrial environments. Targeted applications include resistive loads such as lamps or capacitive loads such as airbag squibs and DC motor drives.

The IRSF3031 is a three-terminal monolithic SMART POWER MOS- FET with built-in short circuit, over-temperature, ESD and over-voltage protections and dual set/reset threshold input. The on-chip protection circuit latches off the power MOSFET in case the drain current exceeds 4A (typical) or the junction temperature ex- ceeds 165°C (typical) and keeps it off until the input is driven below the Reset Threshold voltage. The drain-to-source voltage is actively clamped at 55V (typical) prior to the avalanche of the power MOSFET, thus improving its performance during turn-off with inductive loads. The input requirements are very low (100µA typical) which makes the IRSF3031 compatible with most existing designs based on standard power MOSFETs.

The IRS20124 is a 200V high voltage rated digital audio driver that can provide up to 1000W of output power in Class D audio amplifier applications. The device features integrated dead-time generation and bidirectional over current sensing to simplify design. The IRS20124 also features a programmable compensated preset dead-time for improved THD performance over temperature. The device has high noise immunity and features a shutdown function to protect devices from overload conditions. The IRS20124 operates at up to 1MHz and has 3.3V/5V logic compatible inputs.

The purpose of this application note is to explain how to keep real-time information on a STM8S or STM8A device maintained in low power mode. Only simple solutions which do not require any additional hardware are described in this application note. They are suitable for applications which do not need a very accurate real- time measurement. To benefit fully from the information in this application note, the user should be familiar with the STM8S and STM8A microcontroller architecture and with the basics of C language. For further information on the STM8S and STM8A family features, pinout and electrical characteristics, please refer to the STM8S and STM8A datasheets. An STM8S and STM8A firmware package is delivered with this application note. It contains the complete C source code of an example described in this application note, so that the user can compile, link or modify it as necessary. This document and its associated firmware package, are written to accompany the STM8S and STM8A firmware library. It includes many examples describing how to use the STM8S and STM8A timers, the clock system, the beeper and the auto-wakeup unit mentioned in this application note.

This application note describes how to emulate the UART behavior and functionality using routines in STM8S microcontrollers. The UART peripheral is emulated on hardware that has the capture & compare interrupt capability. Such emulation is useful in applications that require more than one UART, or when the dedicated serial communication hardware peripherals are being used in another way. This software solution is suitable for standard full-duplex speeds of up to 57 600 Bd for the core running at 24 MHz or, of up to 19200 Bd for the core running at 16 MHz. Its main feature is that it runs in the background with a time reserve, so that the main process stream can continue and control the rest of the application processes. The higher communication speeds can be achieved when polling and controlling I/O pins in the main stream, but, as a result, the control of all other application processes is sidetracked while receiving or sending a message and the full-duplex capability might even be lost. Standard data frame formats are supported, as well as options like parity, ninth data bit and double stop bit. Double data registers, noise detection logic, frame generation and overflow logic are implemented with minimum MCU hardware usage. A firmware package is delivered with this document. It contains the complete C source code so that the user can compile.
