This method is applicable to a wide range of animal and plant tissues including dairy products, grains, fruit and vegetables and oil seeds such as poppy seeds. It is suitable for cadmium concentration in the range 0.01-0.3 µg/g. Sample is digested by wet ashing and cadmium is then complexed and extracted into an organic solvent. After removal of the spent aqueous phase the organo metallic complex is destroyed by the addition of dilute HNO3. This aqueous phase containing the stripped cadmium is then analyzed by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (GFAAS). The additional stripping step is employed to improve precision and facilitate the use of aqueous standards.

This application note describes an onsite solution for detecting 13 volatile aromatic compounds in soil with the transportable Agilent 5975T LTM GC/MSD. The solution uses a manual SPME method for sample pretreatment. The transportability of the Agilent 5975T LTM GC/MSD makes onsite detection possible while saving soil sam- pling time and storage. The testing results proved that this solution is practical and effective for detection of volatile organic compounds in soil in the field. The lowest detection amount of this method is 1.0 µg/kg in soil.

This document introduces an automated MRM method optimizer for peptide protein quantitation. The MassHunter Optimizer software is used to optimize collision energies for 40 MRM transitions in LC/MS/MS analysis and compare them with collision energies from Q-TOF experiments. Optimized collision energies result in up to a two-fold increase in sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio of MRM peaks. The MassHunter Optimizer software helps reduce the time and sample required for optimization by up to 200-fold.
