Datasheet for Texas Instruments PT6440 series 6‑A adjustable switching regulators with specifications, pin‑out and application notes.
The PT6440 Excalibur™ series are high‑performance integrated switching regulators housed in a solderable copper case. They operate from 3.1 V to 5.5 V input and deliver up to 6 A output, with selectable output voltages as low as 1.0 V. Both through‑hole and surface‑mount packages are offered, featuring external voltage adjustment, an inhibit (on/off) function, and short‑circuit protection.
The document provides detailed pin‑out information, electrical specifications, typical performance curves, and application notes covering capacitor selection, output‑voltage adjustment, and the inhibit control. Mechanical, reliability and safety data are also included for design engineers.
| Output Current | 6 A |
|---|---|
| Efficiency (at 3.3 V output) | 91 % |
| Adjustable Output Voltage | 1.0 V – 3.5 V (model dependent) |
| Required Input Capacitor | 100 µF electrolytic (or tantalum) |
| Required Output Capacitor | 330 µF electrolytic |
A minimum 100 µF electrolytic (or tantalum) capacitor is required at the input and a 330 µF electrolytic capacitor at the output.
The output voltage can be raised by adding a resistor R2 between the Vout‑Adj pin and ground, or lowered by adding a resistor R1 between Vout‑Adj and the output pins, using the formulas provided in the document.
Pin 1 (Inhibit) disables the regulator output when driven low; the pin has an internal pull‑up and operates normally when left open‑circuit.
The ESR of the 330 µF output capacitor must be less than or equal to 100 mΩ at 100 kHz.
