About this manual

The NCP1200A is a miniature PWM controller designed for high-power AC-DC wall adapters and offline battery chargers. It operates with an internal structure at fixed frequencies of 40 kHz, 60 kHz, or 100 kHz, supplying itself from the high-voltage rail to eliminate the need for an auxiliary winding.

The device features current-mode control with skip-cycle capability to ensure excellent efficiency at light loads without acoustic noise. It includes efficient protective circuitry such as auto-recovery internal output short-circuit protection and internal temperature shutdown.

Frequently asked questions

Does the NCP1200A require an auxiliary winding?

No, it operates without an auxiliary winding by supplying itself from the high-voltage rail.

What happens when the output power demand diminishes?

The IC automatically enters skip cycle mode to provide excellent efficiency at light loads.

Does the device have acoustic noise issues?

No, because the skip cycle occurs at a user adjustable low peak current, no acoustic noise takes place.
