About this manual

This note details the calibration of the Varian Evaporative Light Scattering Detector (ELSD) response within a Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) application. The procedure involves determining the detector's response for specific calibration solutions to ensure accurate measurements.

The test utilized a polystyrene narrow standard (Mp 30,300) eluting through a PLgel MIXED-D column with a fixed injection volume of 100 µL. A series of calibration solutions ranging from 1 to 40 ng of column loading were prepared by diluting a stock solution. The results demonstrated that the ELSD provides a linear response to column loading, even at low concentrations.
