About this manual

The Philips TEA1104 and TEA1104T are integrated circuits designed as cost-effective battery monitor and fast charge ICs specifically for Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) and Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) charger systems. Manufactured in a BICMOS process, these devices are intended for compact consumer applications such as portable telephones, computers, audio, and video equipment.

The circuit detects fully charged batteries using currentless peak voltage sensing and switches from fast charge to safe trickle charge upon full detection. This transition is backed up by two independent fail-safe mechanisms: maximum time and maximum temperature detection. The IC requires no external regulator due to its large input voltage range (5.45V to 11.5V) and needs few low-cost external components.
