About this manual

The Philips Semiconductors 74HC/HCT4515 is a high-speed Si-gate CMOS device designed as a 4-to-16 line decoder or demultiplexer. It features four binary weighted address inputs (A0 to A3) with latches, a latch enable input (LE), and an active LOW enable input (E). The device provides sixteen mutually exclusive active LOW outputs (Q0 to Q15).

When the latch enable input is HIGH, the selected output is determined by the data on the address inputs. When LE goes LOW, the last data present at the address inputs are stored in the latches, and the outputs remain stable regardless of changes to the address inputs. The active LOW enable input (E) controls the state of these outputs: when E is LOW, the selected output determined by the latch contents becomes LOW; when E is HIGH, all outputs go HIGH.

Frequently asked questions

What is the function of the LE input?

When LE is HIGH, the selected output is determined by the data on the address inputs. When LE goes LOW, the last data present at the address inputs are stored in the latches.

What happens when the E input is LOW?

When E is LOW, the selected output, which is determined by the contents of the latch, becomes LOW.

Are the outputs inverting?

Yes, the 16 outputs are mutually exclusive active LOW.
