Maxim DS1073 Oscillator/Divider Datasheet

The DS1073M/Z series is a frequency generator produced by Texas Instruments. It uses a single chip programmable prescaler and a programmable divider to achieve a frequency range of 27.3kHz to 100MHz, and no external components are required.

About this manual

The DS1073 provides two fixed‑frequency outputs ranging from 30 kHz to 100 MHz. Frequency is set by user‑programmable on‑chip prescalers (1, 2, 4) and dividers (1‑513) stored in non‑volatile EEPROM, allowing the part to be programmed on‑site before board production.

The device operates from 2.7 V to 3.6 V and supports internal, external clock or crystal references. Features include power‑down mode, synchronous output gating, and a dual‑purpose I/O pin that serves as a serial programming interface or oscillator output. Electrical specifications are given for both commercial (0 °C‑70 °C) and industrial (‑40 °C‑85 °C) temperature ranges.

Frequently asked questions

How can the device be put into power‑down mode?

Set the PDN bit to 1 and drive the PDN/SELX pin low; this disables the outputs and powers down the internal oscillator.

What reference sources can be used with the DS1073?

The oscillator can use an internal clock, an external clock applied to the OSCIN pin, or a crystal connected between OSCIN and XTAL.

What voltage range does the DS1073 operate over?

The part operates from 2.7 V to 3.6 V supply voltage.
