MAX1840/MAX1841 are SIM card/smart card level translators from MAXIM that provide level shifting and ESD protection for SIM and smart card ports.
The MAX1840 and MAX1841 provide level shifting and ESD protection for SIM and smart‑card interfaces. Each device includes two unidirectional shifters for reset and clock, a bidirectional shifter for data, and ±10 kV ESD protection on all card contacts. The MAX1840 adds a SHDN control input, while the MAX1841 includes a system‑side data driver for controllers without open‑drain outputs.
The datasheet lists absolute maximum ratings, detailed electrical characteristics, and typical operating curves. Pin descriptions, shutdown behavior, and recommended application circuits—including use with the MAX1686H charge pump and SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE interfaces—are provided. Package information (10‑pin µMAX, 1.09 mm height) and compliance with GSM test specifications are also included.
