The MAX5422/MAX5423/MAX5424 nonvolatile, linear-taper, digital potentiometers are low-drift variable resistors that can be used in low-drift, programmable gain-amplifier circuit configurations. The devices have 256 tap points and communicate via a simple 3-wire SPI™-compatible digital interface.
The MAX5422/MAX5423/MAX5424 devices replace mechanical potentiometers with a 3‑wire SPI‑compatible digital interface and provide 256 tap points. They feature an internal EEPROM that stores the wiper position for power‑up recall and are available in 3 mm × 3 mm 8‑pin TDFN packages. Typical applications include LCD contrast control, programmable gain amplifiers, and adjustable voltage references.
Electrical specifications include a supply voltage range of +2.7 V to +5.25 V, a maximum SPI clock frequency of 5 MHz, and a standby current of 0.5 µA (typ). The devices operate over –40 °C to +85 °C, have a temperature coefficient of 35 ppm/°C end‑to‑end, and guarantee 50‑year data retention for the nonvolatile memory.
