This document introduces the MAX16801A/B/MAX16802A/B high-brightness (HB) LED driver-control ICs, including power management, error amplifier, low-frequency PWM dimming circuit
The MAX16801A/B and MAX16802A/B are high‑brightness LED driver‑control ICs designed for universal‑input (85 VAC‑265 VAC) and low‑input (10.8 VDC‑24 VDC) applications. They support buck, boost, flyback, SEPIC and other topologies, offering a fixed 262 kHz switching frequency and programmable duty cycles of 50 % or 75 %.
Key features include an internal error amplifier with 1 % accurate reference, UVLO/EN programmable input startup voltage, internal bootstrap UVLO (MAX16801 only), thermal shutdown at 130 °C, and a tiny 8‑pin UMAX package operating from –40 °C to +85 °C.
| Input Voltage Range (MAX16801) | Rectified 85 VAC to 265 VAC |
|---|---|
| Input Voltage Range (MAX16802) | 10.8 VDC to 24 VDC |
| Switching Frequency | 262 kHz (fixed) |
| Maximum Duty Cycle | 50 % (A versions) or 75 % (B versions) |
| Operating Temperature Range | -40 °C to +85 °C |
| Thermal Shutdown Temperature | 130 °C |
| Startup Supply Current (MAX16801) | 45 µA (quiescent) |
The MAX16801 works with a universal offline input voltage range of rectified 85 VAC to 265 VAC.
The MAX16801B version offers a maximum duty cycle of 75 %.
Both the MAX16801 and MAX16802 operate at a fixed switching frequency of 262 kHz.
Thermal shutdown is triggered when the junction temperature exceeds 130 °C.
