The MAX6660 is a remote temperature sensor and fan-speed regulator that provides a complete fan-control solution.
The MAX6660 integrates a remote temperature sensor and a closed‑loop fan‑speed regulator. It converts the temperature of a remote‑junction diode into a 10‑bit signed word with 0.125 °C resolution and updates the data every 0.25 s. Fan speed is voltage‑controlled, driven by an on‑chip power device capable of up to 250 mA fan current.
The device operates from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply, supports SMBus™ communication with timeout protection, and includes programmable temperature thresholds, gain settings, and over‑temperature shutdown. It is supplied in a 16‑pin QSOP package and is specified for –40 °C to +125 °C ambient temperature.
| Supply Voltage (VCC) | 3.0 V to 5.5 V |
|---|---|
| Fan Supply Voltage (VFAN) | 4.5 V to 13.5 V |
| Fan Output Current | 250 mA |
| Temperature Resolution | 0.125 °C (10‑bit) |
| Temperature Accuracy | ±1 °C (TRJ +60 °C to +100 °C) |
| Operating Temperature Range | –40 °C to +125 °C |
| Conversion Time | 0.25 s |
| SMBus Timeout | 25 ms low condition |
| Package | 16‑pin QSOP |
The device operates from 3.0 V to 5.5 V on the VCC pin.
Temperature data is provided with a resolution of 0.125 °C (10‑bit signed word).
The on‑chip power device can drive fans rated up to 250 mA.
If SMBCLK or SMBDATA stays low for more than 25 ms, the interface resets.
