The MAX6687/MAX6688 is a single-package combination of a remote-junction temperature switch and a local temperature switch for overtemperature protection applications.
The MAX6687 and MAX6688 combine a remote‑junction temperature switch and a local die temperature switch in a single 8‑pin µMAX package. The remote switch uses an external P‑N junction (typically a diode‑connected transistor on a CPU, ASIC or FPGA) and has a factory‑programmed trip threshold of +120 °C or +125 °C. The local switch threshold is pin‑programmable via pins S1 and S2 in 5 °C steps, offering two selectable ranges: +40 °C to +80 °C or +75 °C to +115 °C.
MAX6687 provides two open‑drain active‑low outputs, while MAX6688 provides two CMOS push‑pull active‑high outputs. Both devices operate from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply, draw about 215 µA average current, and feature a 5 °C hysteresis. They are intended for CPU/FPGA temperature protection, fan control, and temperature alarm applications.
| Power‑Supply Range (VDD) | 3 V to 5.5 V |
|---|---|
| Average Supply Current (IDD) | 215 µA typical |
| Temperature Conversion Time | 0.2 s min |
| Threshold Hysteresis | 5 °C |
| Remote Trip Threshold | +120 °C or +125 °C |
| Local Threshold Range | +40 °C to +115 °C (two 5 °C steps ranges) |
| Output Type (MAX6687) | Open‑drain active‑low |
| Output Type (MAX6688) | CMOS push‑pull active‑high |
The devices operate from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V power‑supply range.
Pins S1 and S2 are connected to ground, VDD, or left floating to select the desired threshold in 5 °C increments.
Both the local and remote thresholds have a hysteresis of 5 °C.
