About this manual

The note describes a set of software routines that enable AT89CX051 microcontrollers to read, write and erase AT93CXX serial EEPROMs. It covers all seven device functions and supports both eight‑bit and sixteen‑bit accesses.

Both 3‑wire and 4‑wire wiring configurations are supported. In the 3‑wire mode the EEPROM DI and DO pins share a single microcontroller I/O pin, saving a pin. The ORG pin selects data width, and the software can be downloaded from Atmel’s website.

Frequently asked questions

How does the 3‑wire configuration save pins?

The EEPROM DI and DO pins are both connected to the same microcontroller I/O pin, saving a pin.

Where can the software for this application be obtained?

The software can be downloaded from Atmel’s Web Site.
