MAX761/MAX762 are high-efficiency step-up switching regulators that deliver up to 150mA of output current. They use a unique current-limited pulse-frequency-modulated (PFM) control scheme that gives the devices the benefits of pulse-width-modulated (PWM) converters (high efficiency with heavy loads), while using less than 110µA of supply current (vs. 2mA to 10mA for PWM converters). The result is high efficiency over a wide range of loads.
The MAX761 and MAX762 are step‑up switching regulators that deliver up to 150 mA with high efficiency across a wide load range. They operate from an input voltage of 2 V to 16.5 V and provide fixed 12 V (MAX761) or 15 V (MAX762) outputs, or an adjustable output using external resistors. The devices feature a low‑quiescent supply current of less than 110 µA and a shutdown current below 5 µA.
Typical applications include flash‑memory programming, PCMCIA cards, and battery‑powered equipment. The internal 1 A N‑channel MOSFET and a switching frequency of up to 300 kHz enable the use of small surface‑mount inductors, while the PFM control scheme maintains up to 86 % efficiency over a broad load range.
