This document introduces the 1-port and 2-port high-speed WAN interface cards (HWICs) for Cisco 1861 router, which provide serial WAN connectivity services. These HWICs support various protocols and transport methods, suitable for small and medium-sized businesses and branch offices.
The Cisco Serial High-Speed WAN Interface Cards provide serial WAN connectivity for the Cisco 1861 Integrated Services Router, supporting HDLC, PPP, Frame Relay, and legacy protocols such as SNA, SDLC, Bisync, and X.25. Two versions are offered: a 1‑Port and a 2‑Port HWIC, each using Smart Serial connectors.
Key specifications include up to 8 Mbps per port on the 2‑Port model, support for multiple serial standards (EIA‑232, EIA‑449, EIA‑530, EIA‑530A, V.35, X.21), compact dimensions (0.8 × 3.1 × 5.6 in), and operation from 32 °F to 104 °F. The cards meet UL, CSA, EN, and FCC approvals and are ordered through Cisco's ordering tool.
