The STi5189 integrates a QPSK demodulator, FEC, multi‑stream transport demultiplexing, an ST40‑300 applications CPU, audio/video decode, graphics, security and a range of STB peripherals into a single chip. It supports Linux and OS21, provides USB 2.0 host, Ethernet MAC MII/RMII, and extensive video/audio output options for set‑top box designs.
Two package options are offered: a 15 mm × 15 mm LFBGA (low‑cost, no EMI) and a 23 mm × 23 mm PBGA (full‑specification with EMI, NAND flash and DVB‑CI support). The device includes an on‑chip 1 V regulator, low power consumption (<1 W active, 0.1 W standby), and flexible external memory interfaces for SDR‑SDRAM, DDR1, NOR and NAND flash.
| CPU core and speed | ST40‑300 applications CPU @ 350 MHz |
|---|---|
| Power consumption | Active < 1 W, standby 0.1 W |
| Video decoder | MPEG‑2 MP@ML, dual SD decoding with PIP |
It uses an ST40‑300 applications CPU running at 350 MHz with 32 KB instruction and data caches.
The device decodes MPEG‑1, MPEG‑2, MP3 and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio streams.
